Non-biology students can also take NEET, be doctors

post

In a groundbreaking move, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently revised the eligibility criteria for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) for medical and dental courses. The new rule allows non-biology students, who have completed their Class 12 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as core subjects, to aspire to become doctors.

Previously, students who did not opt for biology in their Class 12 exams were restricted from applying for NEET-UG. With this change, non-biology students, specifically those falling under the 'A' group in the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), can now register for NEET-UG. The 'A' group comprises students who study maths, physics, and chemistry.

However, to be eligible for medical admissions, these non-biology students must clear the Class 12 biology exam from any recognized school board before the commencement of the admission process. This alteration opens up new opportunities for students who have chosen a non-biology track in their higher secondary education, broadening the scope for pursuing a career in medicine.

The NMC's decision reflects a commitment to inclusivity and flexibility in medical education, offering a chance for aspiring doctors from diverse academic backgrounds to contribute to the healthcare sector. This move is expected to encourage a more comprehensive approach to medical education, allowing a broader range of students to pursue their dreams of becoming healthcare professionals.
